What Is PRP Microneedling?

What Is PRP Microneedling? - Re-Nu Aesthetics

Our bodies are continually healing and renewing themselves every day. Often, the secret to health and wellness can be found in our own bodies. With a little help from collagen-stimulating cosmetic treatments, you can enjoy glowing and vibrant skin. With PRP microneedling and other similar cosmetic treatments, your skin can have everything it needs for rejuvenation and healing.

At Re-Nu Aesthetics in Los Angeles, we are invested in the health and wellness of all of our patients. By offering treatments that don’t just make you look better but also help your skin to be healthy and thriving, we hope to give you confidence that is more than just skin deep.

What Is PRP With Microneedling?

At our boutique, we have found a way to pack as many skin rejuvenation benefits in one treatment as possible using our RF microneedling with PRP treatments. This treatment combines microneedling, radiofrequency technology, and the healing benefits of platelet-rich plasma into one non-invasive treatment. Here is how it works:

Step 1: Microneedling Stimulates Collagen Production

Our Morpheus8 microneedling device will create tiny perforations, called microchannels, in the skin. During the healing process, the body recruits fibroblasts which produce collagen and elastin. These fibers support the skin and make it more firm, tight, and elastic. New tissue is also created to help replace old and damaged skin.

Step 2: Radiofrequency Energy Delivers Rejuvenating Benefits

While the microneedles are creating tiny channels in the skin, radiofrequency (RF) energy is simultaneously being delivered into the skin. These RF waves turn into heat energy and penetrate deep into the skin. The skin is tightened and additional collagen and elastin are produced. RF microneedling can make results more noticeable and can help rejuvenation to happen faster.

Step 3: Platelet-Rich Plasma Is Applied to the Treatment Area

After your skin has been treated with RF microneedling, we can add an additional step to help speed up the healing process and boost the formation of smooth and healthy skin. Platelet-rich plasma, also called PRP, is harvested from your own blood and then applied as a topical serum. The PRP immediately cools and soothes your skin and can also enhance the effects of the RF energy and microneedling for a better result.

What Is PRP and How Is It Harvested?

Platelet-rich plasma is a substance that can be found in your blood. Blood is a mixture of solids including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, along with a liquid component called plasma (a mixture of water, proteins, and salt). Platelets are essential for clotting and helping wounds to heal and they have regenerative properties that can make them a valuable medicinal tool.

When you arrive for your PRP microneedling treatment, we will draw a vial of your blood and place it into a centrifuge. This device spins the blood and separates it into red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. We are then able to harvest the platelets and mix them with the plasma to create PRP for topical application.

Other RF Microneedling Treatment Options

RF Microneedling with PRF

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is a platelet concentrate that provides many of the same benefits as PRP with some differences. PRF is more concentrated than PRP, it includes fibrin, and it also contains a higher volume of white blood cells along with platelets. Additionally, PRF is known to release growth factors at a slower rate. Studies have shown that this slower release can allow your body to take greater advantage of the healing properties of the PRF.

When we take your blood to make PRF, we spin the blood at a slower rate. Because of this, fewer of the white blood cells are separated from the plasma, and some of the white blood cells, stem cells, and fibrin sit on the top layer as well. Then the plasma with these healing proteins and cells is taken and applied to the skin after microneedling. PRF can be beneficial because there are no additives such as blood thinners. This means that the product is natural and only contains substances made by your own body.

RF Microneedling with Exosomes

Another effective treatment that we offer is RF microneedling with exosomes. Exosomes are messenger cells that give instructions to other cells to help them to regenerate and heal. Exosome treatments provide these cells with growth factors as well as anti-inflammatory cytokines and peptides to help brighten and rejuvenate the skin and help fill in lines and wrinkles. With many regenerative properties, exosome therapy can offer beneficial results when used in conjunction with RF microneedling technology.

Which Treatment Is Right For You?

If you are looking for a way to rejuvenate your skin, reduce dark marks, brighten your complexion, and make your skin more youthful, microneedling with PRP, PRF, or Exosomes can all be beneficial. When you arrive for your consultation, we will talk to you about all of the considerations including price point, expected results, and the benefits of each product. These treatments are suitable for many of our patients including individuals with darker skin tones.
